Lois’ Artwork
Art is in the eye of the beholder and no where else is this more true than in abstract art. It is what speaks to you from the work.
When I embark on my ‘floorplay’, I paint from my gut and my emotions (one in the same). Often this emotion wants to be expressed (but hidden at the same time), so I allow it to on the canvas. I then begin adding and subtracting lines, colour, and form and am guided by what feels good and what doesn’t. I can also just be playing with the paint and low and behold an image will appear and I then have a focal point for my painting. My work is intuitive, raw, bold, gutsy, and reflective of my energy at that time. My best work has been the paintings that when I released attachment to the outcome and just dove in head first and followed my instincts, the results were profound and beautiful.
Abstract art is a creative journey with hidden secrets that only the artist knows. Those attracted to the art are curious and want to know more about the inner workings of the creator of the piece (don’t we all want to know what’s going on in another person’s mind, if only to realize we are not alone in what’s inside our own?).
Next time you are standing before an abstract composition, stand back and just let the painting’s energy, story and message come to you, without thinking too hard. You don’t have to necessarily like the piece, but I encourage you to appreciate what is beneath it and what it may be saying to you or about you.
